Fading pink in the heat of summer….

Feb Fair at Tupare 2016 008

The hydrangeas are out in full glory. Perhaps this seemingly endless summer is even too hot for them this year, as they look drier and pinker than usual.

Of course, I love the muted shades, the messy variegated colours seen as they slowly die off from what was a glorious bloom, and this hedge was a perfect example of the colours.

A vision of pink….

Pink is Nice.

Pink is Nice. Or rather… Nice is pink. Nice, France… that is. Lots of lovely faded pink buildings. And pale blue and pale green and pale yellow…One can’t help but smile at these gorgeous old buildings in such wonderful summer/beach colours. So pretty and so much faded, past it’s best, glamour. The wonderfully ornate architecture, gorgeous shutters and delicate wrought iron everywhere  in the most pretty faded pastel palettes. I never tired of these grand old ladies.

Orchid, Orchid so contrary…how does your garden grow?

Orchid 2015

Orchids are quite contradictory. They look exotic, appear fragile, are expensive and are apparently notoriously difficult to grow…especially where I live, an area known for its frequently rainfall, salt laden sea air and crisp mountain breezes. And yet, in a tiny corner in my garden where my roses and blueberries always fail, my very neglected orchid plant has again blossomed for the second time ever. And… not one, not two…. but incredibly four stems dripping full of gorgeous orchid buds. This one I cut and have brought indoors to enjoy.

So they may appear exotic, fragile, hard to grow  and expensive, but in a little corner of Taranaki they are growing, quite literally, like a common weed! Not exotic or expensive, not fragile, not hard to grow….and I am thrilled to bits.

In my mother’s garden…a tribute.

I found these in my mother’s garden…so pretty at such a sad time.

There has been a loss in our extended family. And amongst these flowers in my mother’s garden.. we gathered as family and friends at a candle lit table at dusk… to reflect, to laugh together, to share a meal, reminisce and comfort each other at the passing of a dear friend, a family member and a lovely lady now gone.

The colours of the garden.

The colours of Hollard Gardens

Take one sunny spring Saturday, add one happy extended family with children scampering through the garden exploring, grandparents discussing garden plants, and little old me merrily taking photo’s like a child in a candy store…such colour, texture and beauty all in one place!!!
