Easter 2016 007

This old original dairy factory in the back roads of South Taranaki is someone’s home. I know because..

  1. There is a sky TV satellite disk installed.
  2. There are pots and a car parked around the other side.

I like it because it reminds me of buildings in Italy and France (without the fancy balustrades of course). This photograph below – being from Nice in France.

I also like the dairy factory for the same reasons – its aged patina, its wooden shutters and its pastel hues. It seems so out of kilter in a country town full of dairy factories and farm buildings that are practical and functional and made of simple wood and brick and that are  definitely not pink. I always wonder about who built it this way and why?

Loving the Len Lye Centre…

20160226_193125It certainly is a striking building. And in the early evening it looked positively mesmerizing. Hopefully all our American visitors for this weekend’s AmeriCARna Festival are enjoying our lovely city and scenes such as this, as much as many locals are admiring their classic American cars touring tonight in our city.

Summer days are long but the year is short…

Napier Jan 2016 017

Summer doesn’t get any better than a nice summer hot of 31 degrees (Celsius), a cloudless sky, a golden sandy beach, the bluest sea, white lazy waves and a chalky white island in the distance…

I have been back in Hawkes Bay on the eastern side of New Zealand. This image is from the breathtakingly gorgeous Waimarama Beach.

Lazy summer days are great for relaxing and recharging…but one can only relax for so long and I have found myself itching to get back to my city base and get going with loads of ideas for another book, an exhibition and setting up my own gallery this year…!

Tis the season….

20151202_084847_005-1.jpg

December 1…the start of my favourite time of year…Christmas. And summer!

December 1 heralds in the start of the Christmas season…with the tree being decorated, the Advent Calendar being opened,  the Christmas stories coming out, the sense of anticipation starting to build…

December 1 is also, for us the real start of summer. It is the end of school and exams and the time of longer warmer days, of beaches, bbq’s and outdoor fun.

DECEMBER 1…I am so happy you have arrived.

I went to the Len Lye Centre yesterday. It is a stunning and frequently photographed building on the exterior. Inside the gallery was a collection of some of his works and some other collections….including several items from one of my favourite artists…Colin Mc Cahon. But what really struck me as the most beautiful and stunning art in the building…was the building! It’s gracious, smooth, very tall curved concrete walls and the slips of light peeking through between some panels was the most beautiful art of all.
