Pink is Nice.

IMG_4825

Pink is Nice. Or rather… Nice is pink. Nice, France… that is. Lots of lovely faded pink buildings. And pale blue and pale green and pale yellow…One can’t help but smile at these gorgeous old buildings in such wonderful summer/beach colours. So pretty and so much faded, past it’s best, glamour. The wonderfully ornate architecture, gorgeous shutters and delicate wrought iron everywhere  in the most pretty faded pastel palettes. I never tired of these grand old ladies.

Leaving home…and my mountain…

Mount Taranaki today

The mountain was covered in mist and cloud today set against an abstract deep grey sky. It seemed moody, monstrous and majestic. I felt like it was saying to me “Yes, you will see gorgeous monuments, ancient buildings and spectacular scenery while you are away but I will be here still when you get back..I do not change. I am strong, proud and present – a resolute protector. Don’t forget me while you are away”.

The mountain view from the air will be, as for many others, the final visual and metaphorical symbol that I am leaving home and familiarity for a while. The first glimpse of it will be the sign that I am indeed home again, upon return.

Today  – Taranaki,

Tomorrow  – Packing…

Wednesday – The world!

I am off this week to explore, photograph, write, blog and be inspired by the sights of new (to me) places. I will be travelling through parts of Europe and Singapore… camera, tablet, and journal in hand – ready to share with you what inspires me along the way…what I notice, what inspires me, what I love. I hope you come for the trip. Keep an eye on my Facebook page and on Pinterest too (if you are not already signed up) as I will be posting on both regularly!

Cliff top vista’s…

sugar loafs

The sea and sky merge in this image, one is barely able to see the difference, apart from some small islands in the distance. Apart from that, it is a cliff of green, and then endless pale blue sky and sea…magic! The two barrels a not so subtle hint of the area I am in…But, what is not to love – vineyards, grass, cliff top views, big sky and sea…a dramatic, romantic place.

Taking the mystery route….

path in trees

To the right of this path, if you were to glance to the right, is a large concrete pathway and beyond that is the blue, blue sea. But you don’t really notice these, as the large coastal trees and the winding leaf-strewn path through them distracts your attention away from the sea and into the forest of branches, greenery and birdsong. The path leading beyond where you can see, so you keep walking (or scootering!) to see what lies beyond the next corner…a mystery loved by young and old alike..

Through the gates…

gates

What is beyond the gates? Yes they are rusted, broken and crumbling down…but they are also strangely inviting, inspiring, and interesting. There is something romantic, glamorous and slightly spooky about them…I wonder what I would find if I could venture up the stairs.

Drama in the hills

I like the way this landscape looks almost ethereal and not like a photograph at all, but more like a painting. Strong lines, restricted colours, light and shadow all work together to create a dramatic image.

Sandy Bay Boys

Sandy Bay, seagulls, boys running…. This is the photograph I am considering for my entry in the Taranaki Art Awards, Photography section.

Wish me luck with it!
