The non-chocolate bunny….

Easter 2015 003

He was supposed to be chocolate. There was a chocolate bunny. But he had somehow disappeared with only the faint traces of chocolate crumbs left behind. So, instead, here is a photo of a much loved white porcelain bunny. Still very cute, but definitely not chocolate!

Easter… Such a mixed holiday….for some, it is a deeply religious observation, for others it signifies a four day public holiday – a break from routine and a chance to spend precious time with family and friends. For others (in the northern hemisphere) it signals the start of spring and end of winter (hence the lambs, chicks and baby rabbit imagery…?). For us in New Zealand, Easter is often officially the last long weekend of summer or alternately, a sign that winter and rain is already on its way (depending on how lucky we are with good weather over Easter…)

While everyone has different views/traditions/beliefs/ideas on the four day Easter Observation / Public Holiday and what it is mainly about and how they observe it….everyone I know seems to agree that Easter is about food and family. Specifically, eating chocolate and warm, scented and tasty Hot X buns, and about family get together’s around a big table having Easter lunch, or enjoying a final end-of-summer bbq.

For our family, its a combination of all of the above. The Easter Egg Hunt being a highlight for the children. But any celebration that involves eating chocolate and spending time together, especially by the beach, is all right by me.

Happy Easter.

In my mother’s garden…a tribute.

I found these in my mother’s garden…so pretty at such a sad time.

There has been a loss in our extended family. And amongst these flowers in my mother’s garden.. we gathered as family and friends at a candle lit table at dusk… to reflect, to laugh together, to share a meal, reminisce and comfort each other at the passing of a dear friend, a family member and a lovely lady now gone.

F for Family and Friends

Family and friends…what could be more important at Christmas?

Christmas is a time to really recognise and appreciate those people close to you, those people you hold in your heart, those near and far who you think of often, those who make your heart smile and those who make you know you belong.

Family and Friends for the letter F of this year’s Advent Alphabet.

A special moment.

A grandfather and grandson meeting for the first time. A special moment that I was privileged to be a part of.

I do love taking photographs of people, but rarely post them on my blog as most subjects are (my ever obliging) family and people I know personally. In this case, I have made an exception. I think it is just an exquisitely touching moment. I hope you, like me, get a little lump in your throat and can feel the love that I have tried to capture.
