A Little Christmas Advent Alphabet Book by Black Box Art Studio

book cover

Very exciting news!!!!

I have just ordered the first copies of my first Black Box Art Studio book. It is a little black 6 inch x 6 inch square book called “A Little Christmas Advent Alphabet Book”. This is completely designed and produced by myself and using my own writing and my own art and photographic images to count down to Christmas. It is a 100% original Black Box Art Studio product.

It is printed on gorgeous thick exceptional quality photographic paper built to last for generations and is a professional quality lay-flat photographic book – so it can lie flat on a table or stand upright with the image clearly spread across the two pages…absolutely beautiful.

Please have a look at the preview…its a wonderful gift and Christmas heirloom item – can be used every year as an inspirational way to count down the days until Christmas.

Spring has arrived…

After the chaos of travel, tourists, crowds, trains, endless queues and cities full of people and non-stop action, it was refreshing to wander around one of our regional gardens on Sunday and admire the spring blossoms while children ran and scampered with complete freedom.

Pink is Nice.

Pink is Nice. Or rather… Nice is pink. Nice, France… that is. Lots of lovely faded pink buildings. And pale blue and pale green and pale yellow…One can’t help but smile at these gorgeous old buildings in such wonderful summer/beach colours. So pretty and so much faded, past it’s best, glamour. The wonderfully ornate architecture, gorgeous shutters and delicate wrought iron everywhere  in the most pretty faded pastel palettes. I never tired of these grand old ladies.

We opened the doors today – our first ever shop…it looked fabulous and it was great to meet so many lovely people who came in to see what we were doing and enjoyed the mix of my art and photography, the Fantail Collection, vintage treasures, Start Something kits and gorgeous flowers. The kids art/play area was also pretty popular with the younger crowd…

Here are a few pictures of the gallery/shop…

Inspiration on Pinterest…

I have been loving Pinterest recently – getting loads of inspiration on a whole range of things including art and photography but also great ideas I have collected about up-cycling furniture, gorgeous patterns and colours and drawings, wish list interiors and gardens, and awesome inspiring words. Please have a look and share anything you think is inspiring for you, or just leave a comment or share a pin. It is so great to see all the other people’s ideas and collections and passions. Share the love I think.

Winter in Hawkes Bay.

Picture perfect.

Hard to leave for so many reasons.

This is just one.

Birds of a feather…

June 2015 001

I was not sure what these birds were when they passed in front of my house one evening very recently. Possibly ducks (wisely escaping duck hunting season) or perhaps they were geese on migration to some place warmer? Were they an NZ native bird or a visiting feathered friend en-route to some-place else?  They flew with a sense of purpose, in a line three times as long as my camera image….who they are, where they go…I do not know, but I do know they looked pretty spectacular from my window.

Life lessons in the weather….

Evening June 14 2015

It wasn’t even five o’clock. But that’s winter for you. We had rain, wind, early darkness and then through the dark clouds a final defiant burst of sunlight just as it tipped below the horizon…a little reminder that after the rain the sun will always come, in life and in weather.

The horses are back!

Sacha and horses

Every now and then, on the green hill across the street from my house in the suburbs, on the outskirts of the city, horses appear like magic. Gone for ages, then suddenly appearing….and yesterday they were back after a long absence.

Four of them, 3 horses and one little pony. With 4 apples in hand we made our way up the hill to see them. My daughter, loving the child sized pony, and I, preferring the largest of them all.

Gentle giants of the hill, I am so glad to see you.

A pink mountain hints of winter…

Our mountain with a fresh snow topping and softly lit by the setting sun on a crisp, clear evening…..the first sign of winter’s imminent arrival.
