Winter morning in full view.

mountain in late august 2016

There was something about the light this morning that made the mountain seem especially majestic. What an incredible sight to behold while going about the morning’s chores…enough to make you just pause and consider the incredible thing that is nature.

Forever…

It was a wild and windy day today and down by the Port the rain was horizontal. Bleak and blustery. But I smiled when I saw the word painted on the breakwater.

Taking in the view…

hills

It is always good to get away and see new sights. The hills are different here from where I live, the landscape changed subtely and the light, somehow different.

Big sky night on the coast…

June 2016 Sunset over sea

The sun was there. A large gold orb floating just above the horizon. Then, seemingly in an instance, it was almost gone, leaving in its wake, a spectacular sky of pinks, blues and purples. The blackest silhouette of winter trees remained momentarily as the golden orb sank fully into the sea beyond the horizon. What an incredibly sight on a mid-winter’s evening.

The weight of water.

new painting 1

A new painting. Titled “The weight of water”

Inspired by the black sand, the blue sea and the light shifting on both, where I live.

I hope you like it.

Good Friday. A public holiday. A beach. Perfection.

Taking in the moment….

It was one of those moments when I had to stop and reflect on how lucky I am…to be able to leave my home and after a five minute drive, enjoy this stunning view during my evening run. It really is quite sensational.

Lighting up the night sky…

20151205_213957

The sky changed from blackest blue to a shimmering, glimmering display of light and colour and sound. The peace was broken. The darkness now broken with bursts of colour and shattering of light and smoke falling to the ground. It was by far the best fireworks I have ever seen. I even found a flower amount the stars.

Rework of an old scene….

old wooden church

Sometimes it is important to go back over old work and look at it with fresh eyes. In this case, what caught my attention was the simple wooden structure against the early evening sky. It was a pleasant enough picture but I was feeling creative so I have played with it…The sky now a deep mass of indigo/pink and purple and the simple white building bathed in a pink glow…

I like the effect. It feels like a light beacon / a pink symbol of safe harbour against the darkness threatening overhead.
