The real cost of progress…

Rural Taranaki, like other provincial areas, has a large number of deserted schools littering the local roads. You don’t have to drive very far along our rural roads to find one. They are closed down, boarded up, abandoned, sometimes the buildings are removed, leaving empty concrete swimming pools, abandoned tennis courts and playgrounds, all over run with weeds, wind blown debris and the victim of vandalism. It is a very sad state of affairs, I think. They are ghostly quiet, eerily vacant.
